The 38th Annual Wells Fargo Ski Cup in Winter Park to Benefit The National Sports Center for the Disabled
More than 5,000 expected to attend the longest running professional ski race in the country
Denver, Colo. (Jan. 22, 2013) – The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) will host the 38th Annual Wells Fargo Ski Cup on March 1 – 3 at Winter Park Resort. This event is one of the most successful fundraisers for the NSCD, bringing in more than $200,000 to support therapeutic recreation summer and winter programs for children and adults with disabilities. Debuting this year: an outside vendor area with nearly 20 vendors featuring the latest in ski equipment, clothing and accessories. There will also be dining and entertainment.
The weekend boasts three races: the Corporate Cup, a Pro Am style race where teams of five friends, family or coworkers are paired with an NSCD Competition Center athlete and compete for prizes; the Kids Snowplow Sprint, which features up-and-coming NSCD athletes and able-bodied young skiers; and the World Disabled Invitational, where disabled skiers from around the world compete for a spot on the 2014 Winter Paralympic team.
Other festivities throughout the weekend include the Après Ski Bash, a two-day silent auction, visit from Denver Bronco Alumni and cheerleaders and live entertainment. It’s easy for the general public join in on the activities by signing up for Ski for NSCD. This on-line fundraiser rewards the public with Winter Park Resort lift tickets and season passes for raising, awareness and funds for a good cause. People who register can easily create their own website page to email out to family and friends who can then donate in the person's name.
“Thanks to our many sponsors, like Wells Fargo and Winter Park Resort, the NSCD is able to offer incentives levels for our Ski for NSCD fundraiser that includes ski passes, winter sporting gear, meals and lodging for the weekend,” said Becky Zimmermann, president and CEO of NSCD. “We are looking forward to a successful Wells Fargo Ski Cup this year.”
