Sometimes you get angry and I get email messages. Sometimes they are sent in the middle of the night and I read them when I wake up, at 430 am. Here are some excerpts from messages in the past 24 hours re: my "Paul Harvey from beyond the grave creeps me out" comments:

"Bret is a complete ASS.  His comments are infantile and not voiced with much fore thought... I will be interested to hear what they have to say in response.  I'm sure nothing of any worth.   I find it interesting that a few journalists, disc jockeys etc. are making "fun" of the commercial saying that the stills used are indicative of people and equipment that is old, outdated.  As you said, they completely missed the point that the commercial was touting and honoring those that work hard for a living and have for decades.  That farmers today work every bit as hard as those of yesteryears.  The commercial elicited a sense of pride, something that those expecting handouts don't understand.  They believe they are entitled to what others work for.  That the capitalists must share everything with everyone because they have what others want, but aren't willing to work for.  Of course the fact that they have worked to get where they are doesn't matter to the liberal left.  We are moving toward a "Robin Hood" society where the government takes from the hard working and gives to the not working."

This one is less harsh:

"Your ridiculing opinion that one must be 80 years old to appreciate this is troubling.  It seems that you missed the point; and Robbyn, her only concern was the make of the truck.  Unfortunately, I am sure your views are shared by many.  Welcome to our new generation of American values."

And how about this one?

"You're rapidly (and sadly) becoming a parody of yourself.  And an utterly predictable one at that.  During my brief connection with KBCO (at 20 minutes, I'm not a significant TSL contributor) this AM, you referred to the "creepy" Paul Harvey narrated Dodge truck Super Bowl ad.  It's increasingly clear that you're an elitist who's either ignorant of your chosen station in life (doubtful) or simply embarrased by it.  And to be clear, it's not just your distaste for that ad, but rather your collective disapproval of so many banal cultural persons (Buffet), places (anywhere that Wal-Mart is popular), and things (sports or anything where physicality trumps intellectual superiority) that I find so disingenuous.  I know they're beneath your station; still. they offer comfort and enjoyment to the unwashed masses that you so despise.  At the very least, own up to, heck, even embrace your politic, rather than offer these coy peeks into your bias.
It's quite ok, even normal don't you think, to have a bias.  Just have the balls and honesty to cop to it.  Try it for a week.  Be unabashed about who you are and where you stand because it's painfully obvious you're uncomfortable posing in the middle.  You might find it liberating, and while it may cost you a few of your Facebook friends and a smidgeon of cume, your mental health is worth it."
